Valentine Day

Thanks to Facebook with its memory. I read again my short notes 8 years ago when Kelud Mountain erupted and sent ashes high upward that also darkened Yogya. We almost could see nothing while rain of ashes kept pouring covered everything.  It took weeks to dust off the ashes and I felt so tired. It was my grey Valentine Day. dan abu menghambur menggebu meninggalkanku termangu

Where are You Going?

When you ask the people of Yogyakarta the question 'Where are you going?" The most probably  answer will be one N among these four Ns, namely: ngalor (to the North), ngetan (to the East), ngidul (to the South),   ngulon (to the West).  Those 4 Ns actually the dialect of saying the cardinal points:  North ( Lor) , East ( Wetan ), South ( Kidul ), and West ( Kulon ).  I have spent a half part of my life in Yogyakarta to study at first and make a living later on.  While studying, it was  not really necessary to use the cardinal points for my daily trips because public transportation were  available to deliver us to every corner of the city and it was cheap. I could just sit and surrender my life to the drivers and the conductors of the buses or station wagons who would bring their passengers to the chosen destination. I must learn to get accustomed to the cardinals points when I became the coordinator of video shooting especially when we went to ...

Digital Literacy

It is interesting to learn that Kompas newsapers 8 Februari 2022 published  an article entitled "The Elders Need Digital Literacy."  It is found out that in our society the elders is the most vulnerable community who are easily get affected by hoax because some of them have limited knowledge and skills in dealing with digital technology. These lacks have caused them trouble because they are often manipulated by those who have bad intention to take advantage. I am a member of less than 30 WA groups and one of which is the group of my neighbors who live in one RT (Rukun Tetangga: the smallest part of teritory). This group tends to be passive, only the coordinator who regularly  share some information about the date for monthly gathering.  The WA group of "Dasa Wisma Pepaya" (the name of the community) has been more active because one of my neighbor always shares any kind of  information related to covid-19 pandemic.  However,  it is usually one side info...

Never Too Old to Learn

Last week I went to the biggest private national bank in my hometown. I wanted to sent money for the payment of a piece of written saroong  batik (Indonesian/Javanese traditional fabric) and fee for writing article for my friend. Actually, it could be done with  internet banking, but I wanted to save 13,500 rupiah (this is 2 times of fees for inter-banks fund transfer). Another reason was I liked to spend my time observing people in different places when I have free time. I didn't need to queue since I came late in the afternoon near the closing time of the bank so I could finish my money transfer  in 10 minutes. Next to me there was an middle-age woman who looked confused while looking at her cell phone and at the same time answering the question from the  teller in front of her. I overheard the conversation and I knew that the woman could not fill in the form for fund transfer which should be done by using an android based application. The teller tried hard to exp...

Stay Safe

It is not over. The pandemic is still there. Until today, I have received 5 WA text asking about our shelter for accommodating those who have to be in isolation because of covid-19 or omnicron viruses.  So far, there is no plan to reopen the shelter and I have to give a no answer to them. To be honest, it is not easy to give a no answer. I do hope that there will be no more similar questions in the following days. Stay safe every one. The best easiest thing we can do today is to obey the health protocol.

Seize the Day

This afternoon I watched "Gourmet Goes Tribal" from National Geographic channel. It was a 2019 production actually, but I love to watch it. Believing that food can change lives, Colombian chief Pablo Naranjo Agular travels to remote India to meet, live, and cook with the tribes of the region. Admist surreal surrounding, Pablo is spellbound by the ingredients, techniques, and people. I love Pablo's reflection on his visit in some parts of Asia. He learnt many new things during the time with the people. While for me, I  learn one thing from this program: just live your life to the fullest every day.

A Beautiful Day

This morning, I went to Salatiga, a city in Central Java province which is located strategically at the crossroad of five direction, namely Semarang, Bringin, Surakarta, Magelang, and Ambarawa. I had an appointment to have an interview with a lady.  I had just contacted her last week, I got her number from my dorm mate.  She answered me that she was willing to have an interview and just answered "tunggu" (wait) when I asked here when and where the interview would be.  I waited for 5 days before texted her again, and the answer was still "tunggu" (wait) still I did not receive information about the schedule and the place for the interview.  Finally, because I had to report about this plan in the meeting last Wednesday, I made a decision to inform her that I  would meet her on Saturday. She directly answered yes, at noon, and she mention a coffee shop to be the place for the interview. I told her that the shooting crew  would depart at 8 o'clock from Yogyakar...

A Short Story for Children

I AM SORRY, BIK NARTI   THURSDAY AFTERNOON                “Bik Narti!! Where are you? Where are the mangoes and lemons? “ Bayu yelled loudly. Bayu was in the kitchen looking for Bik Narti, the household assistant in his house.              “Bik Narti … you don’t have ears, do you?” Bayu continued calling harshly because Bik Narti did not answer him. Bik Narti hurriedly entered the kitchen.              “The fruit is in the basket, Mas Bayu, I am sorry, I am in the washing room,” explained Bik Narti.             Meanwhile, Bu Ratih, Bayu’s mother, also entered the kitchen. She looked at Bayu seriously.             ‘Kak Bayu, what is the matter?” Bu Ratih as...

Step by Step

Last October, I joined a class of Javanese classical dance at KBW (Krida Beksa Wirama) in Dalem Tirtodipuran Yogyakarta.  KBW is one of Javanese classic dances "sanggar"among some similar others  that offer dancing classes for general participants.  I assume, their target participants are children and teenagers, so it was quite a  surprise that KBW opens a class for the mothers. For long,  I've had a wish that someday I can learn Javanese classical dance so I directly registered myself. The first class was attended by more than 40 participants and it brought  a little problem because the room for practicing is not big enough to accommodate 40 people.  At the end of the class, we had a discussion, and it was decided to split the participants into two classes. The afternoon and evening class. I met new friends there, one of which is a lady who, just like me, has no experience in Javanese classical dance. We are slow learners and need some time to get our...

On those beautiful dates, they will persuade you to buy as many as you can because they give various kind of  interesting offers such as price discount, free vouchers, free delivery cost, etc.  As I am considered myself as an out o...

A Remark from January

I am quite happy for my little achievement for the month of January 2022. Still, I have to rearrange some things so that it will be better for the following months. During the last 31 days, I usually  wrote my blog at the very late hour of the day after I have finished all my household works. I think I imagine myself as a journalist who has to fill her deadline by working the task until  the last minute. The fact was I often passed the deadline of the day for only about 15 - 30 minutes. What a pity. To avoid the lateness, therefore, I will spare time about an hour or more before 10 o'clock in the night to write the blog. I usually need 45 minutes to write and edit the article, so it will be finished around 11 pm at the latest. I do hope this will work and I believe that I should always be happy in walking and writing.  A cheerful heart is  good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

RED

Red is every where today to celebrate the Chinese New Year. It always refreshes my eyes and warm my heart whenever I see  this color. I read on Color Psychology, it is the study of hues as a determinent of human behavior, that color is a powerful communication tool and can be used to signal action, influence mood, and even influence psychological reaction. Certain colors have been associated with increased blood pressure, increased metabolism, and eyestrain ( by Kendra Cherry in www.verywellmind.com ).  It is said that Red as color is the single most dynamic and passionate color, symbolize love, rage, and courage. Demanding attention, red has great emotional impact. Those who select red are aggresive, impulsive and strive for success. The desire to experience the fullness of living leads to constant activity. Based on my experiences, everything that is new always attract more  attention. It sometimes strongly motivate  our heart in a sense that we usually put more ef...
