Never Too Old to Learn
Last week I went to the biggest private national bank in my hometown. I wanted to sent money for the payment of a piece of written saroong batik (Indonesian/Javanese traditional fabric) and fee for writing article for my friend. Actually, it could be done with internet banking, but I wanted to save 13,500 rupiah (this is 2 times of fees for inter-banks fund transfer). Another reason was I liked to spend my time observing people in different places when I have free time.
I didn't need to queue since I came late in the afternoon near the closing time of the bank so I could finish my money transfer in 10 minutes. Next to me there was an middle-age woman who looked confused while looking at her cell phone and at the same time answering the question from the teller in front of her. I overheard the conversation and I knew that the woman could not fill in the form for fund transfer which should be done by using an android based application. The teller tried hard to explain the steps to do it to the woman, but it seemed quite difficult for her to understand. For this application, we must provide our email address because the confirmation after filling the transfer fund form will be sent to our email address and we need to show it to the teller to proceed with the transfer. I noticed that the voice of the teller when asked the email address was sounded impatient as the woman could not answer. I did not know what happened next because I had to leave, but I hope it could be well-settled.
I realize that we can not avoid the wind of change and I am grateful that it is the nature of human being to face and adapt to their new situation. It may take some times before we are ready and fluent in doing something new and during that time I hope those who understand earlier can transfer the information to the later.
I am quite sure that the tellers in the bank are ready to help their customer though I also believe that sometimes they feel bored and get angry a lit bit because they need to spend more time to teach their customers since they are the master of the newest technolgy. Before, the elders teach them and now it's vice versa. Never too old to learn and never too young to teach.
indeed - btw I also hate that fee of inter bank transfer
ReplyDeleteeven though IDR 6500 might be more than the cost of my time, transport, parking fee, etc. but still I feel IDR 6500 is too costly
